DP World, known for its smart supply chain solutions, announced on Monday that its cloud-based Terminal Operating System (TOS), CARGOES TOS+ (ZODIAC), has successfully completed its “go-live” at the Commercial Port of Luanda, Angola.
For the uninitiated, CARGOES TOS+ (ZODIAC) is a platform encompassing all IT and operational systems under one umbrella. It offers an integrated platform that empowers all the supply chain users with real-time information on the yard, vessel, gate, and rail movements. Some other features which make this platform so useful are digital documentation, advanced Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), smart planning components, flexible reporting, and web-enabled user interfaces.
DP World is enabling smarter trade for emerging economies to compete on a global scale. Luanda is a great example of the same.
The port of Luanda was looking to revamp its supply chain and logistics operations to meet the growing demands and adapt to the modern world. It required digital solutions that could enable this growth without requiring a lot of time for implementation.
CARGOES TOS+, the cloud-based, off-the-shelf solution, provided the answer. It was deployed in fewer than eight weeks – from start to go live.
The software project was commenced after signing a 20-year agreement between the DP World group and the Angolan government in January 2021.
The Zodiac professional services team worked in tandem with the DP World MEA portfolio team members on-site to deliver a Terminal Operating System that improves a myriad of processes and provides seamless optimization functions.
With the help of CARGOES TOS+, Luanda now has the structure in place to adapt quickly to changing market conditions and expectations. It also has the flexibility to implement new models and strategies as a result.
The solution selected by DP World Luanda has been implemented at 87 sites worldwide. The rollout of the innovative solution in Luanda marks another successful ZODIAC implementation to add to the growing number within the DP World group.
Improvements at the terminal have already started to take place. New rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes are currently being incorporated into the terminal’s fleet, which represents the first of their kind in Angola.
As part of its responsible corporate citizenship and a bid to promote sustainability, DP World Luanda is training and integrating local people into the project so that the project not just supports the country’s economic growth but may have a positive impact on the local communities as well.
