The major milestone reflects the mature and central role of biometrics in mobile!
World-leading biometrics company, Fingerprint Cards AB (Fingerprints™) today announced that its technology has been integrated into 500 different smartphone models. The 300-mark was reached at the beginning of 2018 and we announced 400 at the end of 2019.
With over 80 percent of all smartphones sold currently featuring some form of biometric technology, the adoption of biometrics is continuing to rise to enhance the user experience and replace PINs and passwords. Biometrics is now the preferred way for consumers to unlock their devices, authenticate payments and access apps. Just over 60 percent of launched smartphone models from the ten largest Android OEMs in 2020 had a capacitive fingerprint sensor, an increase from 2019.
Fingerprints’ technology is present in nine out of the top ten smartphone OEM brands. With the integration rate of biometric sensors for smartphones increasing and new innovative products launching, the market for mobile biometrics is continuing to see strong growth.
“Our technology continues to make the lives of hundreds of millions of people safer and more convenient. This is a significant milestone for Fingerprints and a marker for the biometrics industry, as biometrics is now a natural and trusted technology for many of us,” comments Ted Hansson, SVP Business Line Mobile at Fingerprints. “Our capacitive fingerprint sensors continue to gain momentum in the smartphone market, where our trusted solutions are enabling innovation and differentiation for mobile OEMs.”
