We are ushering into the future of IoT, where it will provide enormous beneficial opportunities for consumers and customers. But, the requirements of the customers and consumer expectations are changing, and the competition is increasing. On top of it, with the increased adoption of these connected devices, there’s increased pressure on companies to create high-end, differentiated, powerful, yet power-efficient, and secure devices.
To help companies keep up with these demands and requirements, Qualcomm provides comprehensive solutions that provide the technology and tools required to help scale and create various ecosystems within the IoT.
Recently, the chipmaker company introduced seven new IoT processors- Qualcomm QCS8250, Qualcomm QCS4290 / QCM4290, Qualcomm QCS6490 / QCM6490, and Qualcomm QCS2290 / QCM2290, to support new IoT devices and solutions designed for industrial and commercial applications.
Features
Out of all these chips, QCS8250 has been listed by Qualcomm as its premium-tier chip for greater power efficiency with AI at the edge by supporting Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6 solutions and 5G connectivity. Its Hexagon processor delivers 15 TOPS of AI performance, and it works with Qualcomm’s AI Engine to support up to 7 concurrently running cameras with 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. Some of the target applications are – Video Collaboration, Retail, Connected Healthcare, Digital Signage, etc.
The QCS6490 and QCM6490 processors include support for Wi-Fi 6E and integrated 5G Wave/sub-6 GHz, which are useful for robust tablets and handhelds, human-machine interface systems, and industrial scanners.
Qualcomm’s QCS4290 and QCM4290 are designed for cameras, security panels, and industrial handhelds. They offer the greatest intermediate layer benefits and include powerful performance, dynamic camera capabilities, and a plethora of connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi and LTE Cat13. They come with a 3rd generation Qualcomm AI engine and are equipped with Kryo260 CPU architecture for fast and robust on-device performance.
QCS2290 and QCM2290 are entry-level chips meant for cost-effective IoT systems such as camera applications, point-of-sale devices, tracking, and many others.
These new chipsets have been introduced to help different industries, including transportation and logistics, warehousing, video collaboration, smart cameras, retail, healthcare, and others, with a wide range of features, such as:
- 5-G
- WiFi6 connectivity
- Artificial Intelligence acceleration
- long-life hardware and software options for long-term support
Eighteen different device maker companies have been named by the chipmaker, including Honeywell, Arrow, and Amtran that will incorporate the chipsets into their designs and devices to appear in the future.
